  • Admission criteria - Diplomas and Bachelor degrees

    Sheridan welcomes applications from individuals with recent secondary school experience, work life experience and vocational study. In addition to the general admission requirements below, there may be course-specific entry requirements which are outlined in the relevant course pages.

    The Admissions Policy applies for all courses and can be found on the Student Policies and Forms page.

    Diploma courses

    Recent Secondary Education Applicants
    Open to persons who are 17 years of age or over who have either:
    • Completed the WACE and achieved an ATAR entry score of 60 (or its equivalent as determined by the Academic Council) for the course, or
    • Completed the WACE and a university preparation course authorised by an Australian university, or
    • Completed a recognised university preparation or foundations course, or
    • Completed an International Baccalaureate (Applicants should contact Sheridan's Registrar for information regarding what score is required for entry into their chosen course).
    Applicants must also provide evidence of sufficient English ability through Completion of WACE with scaled marks of at least 50 in ATAR English or ATAR Literature, A grade in General English, achieving a score of 140 or higher in the STAT Written English, or successful completion of a recognised university preparation or foundations course.

    Work Life and Vocational Training Applicants
    Sheridan welcomes applications from persons of at least 17 years of age who have work life experience or have or are planning to complete a vocational training course. Sheridan recognises that preparation for higher education is not restricted to formal educational attainment and that valuable intellectual and skills development can be gained through wide-ranging experiences and informal study.

    Open to persons who are 17 years of age or over by course commencement and who have either:
    • Completed or are completing a VET Certificate IV or higher in a relevant discipline, or
    • Completed two or more units of tertiary study which are completed as a separate enrolment, or
    • Achieved a score of 140 or higher in STAT Written English and 140 in the STAT Multiple Choice.
    Applicants must also provide evidence of sufficient English ability through completion of WACE with scaled marks of at least 50 in ATAR English or ATAR Literature, or an A grade in General English, achieving a score of 140 or higher in the STAT Written English, or completion of a recognised university preparation or foundations course or completion of a Diploma or higher level vocational qualification.

    (Note - Applicants 18 years or under please contact the Registrar to receive a letter of invitation to sit the STAT.)

    Bachelor Courses

    Recent Secondary Education Applicants

    • Completed the WACE and a university preparation course authorised by an Australian university, or
    • Completed a recognised university preparation or foundations course, or

  • Admission criteria - postgraduate courses

    In addition to the general admission requirements below, there may be course-specific entry requirements which are outlined in the relevant course pages.

    The Admissions Policy applies for all courses and can be found on the Student Policies and Forms page.

    Applicants who do not meet the graduate experience requirement may, at the discretion of the Dean, be permitted to enrol in postgraduate courses 'nested' within a Masters course (for example – a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma). However, on completion of their 'nested' course they will not be permitted to articulate into the Masters course until the experience requirements listed and any other course-specific entry requirements are met.

    Higher Education Applicants - Master of Education
    Course Specific Requirements:
    • 4-year Bachelor of Education degree, or
    • 3-year undergraduate degree and a minimum 1-year postgraduate pre-service teacher education qualification (e.g. GradDipEd or MTeach), or
    • 3-year undergraduate degree in a non-education discipline AND 2 years' full-time equivalent relevant professional experience
    Higher Education Applicants - Graduate Diploma of Business Administration
    Course Specific Requirements:
    • A Bachelor degree or equivalent qualification from an Australian university or other approved higher education provider with a credit average, and
    • satisfactory evidence demonstrating the equivalent of at least three years' relevant full-time professional experience.
    Work Life Experience Applicants
    Open to persons who have:
    • graduated with a higher education diploma from an Australian provider or other approved education provider with a credit average (or equivalent), and
    • provided satisfactory evidence demonstrating the equivalent of at least five years' relevant work experience and are assessed by the Dean as being able to successfully complete the program and make a positive contribution to the learning environment.
