| Search Tips |
| |
The default search works in the least restrictive manner and
may return a large number of results. On the other hand, too few results may be returned
if you specify multiple search criteria. You may find the following information helpful
to fine-tune your search results.
All search criteria are inherently ANDed, eg if you select a University and type in some text
in Free-Text/Keywords field, the search engine will look for your text within that University only.
|
 |
| Course Code: If you already know the course code and would like to
know more about the course, you may type the code here and leave all other criteria at their default values
|
 |
| Free-Text / Keywords: This works in conjunction with Options described
below, and allows you to type more than one word (eg medical science). It also performs a partial word
search, eg typing 'anthropolo' or 'nthropology' or 'nthropolog' will include 'anthropology' in your
search results. (Note: omit all quotes with your search words.)
|
 |
- Where possible use singular words rather than plurals (eg 'science' instead of 'sciences')
- Avoid words such as 'of', 'and', 'or', etc and punctuation (eg comma, quotes, apostrophe, semi-colon, etc)
- Avoid using abbreviations and acronyms
|
Options for Free-Text / Keywords
- Any Word: returns courses matching any of your words in the total course information
- All Words: returns courses matching all of your words in the total course information
- Exact Phrase: returns courses matching your exact phrase in the total course information
- Keywords Only: returns courses matching any of your words in the course-specific words (keywords).
This option does not search the entire course information
The above options only apply if you have typed some text in the Free-Text / Keywords field.
|
 |
|
Example: If you type 'English' in the Free-Text/Keywords field and leave other fields
at their default values, a large number of courses will be returned, including those which are
irrelevant to English studies. This is because the word 'English' may appear in the course
information of non-English studies courses. However, if you select the Keywords Only option,
the results will be much fewer, and will be more relevant. You can further filter your results
by selecting a particular University, Campus and Method of Study.

| Course Code and Free-Text / Keywords are case insensitive. |
